On the record: UA’s Clayton Murphy advances to NCAA Championships in 1,500 meters

University of Akron junior Clayton Murphy finished first in the men’s 1,500 meters at NCAA Division I East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Fla., Saturday.

Murphy finished with a time of 3:43:43 and qualified for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 8-11. The top 12 in each event advanced.

Kent State senior Donovan Tolbert placed eighth and qualified in the triple jump with a best mark of 52-4½. University of Akron junior Michael Ohiembor (50-5¼) did not qualify.

University of Akron freshman Curtis Richardson placed fifth to qualify in the high jump with a best jump of 7-1½.
