The University of Akron women’s tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule on Friday with wins in three doubles matches and two singles matches against Miami on Friday at the Nishan Vartabedian Spring Invitational in Pittsburgh.
Sophomore Sophia Geier won 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 at first singles and junior Shannon Newnes won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 4 singles to lead the Zips in singles action.
Karalina Maksimava and Geier won at first doubles, Newnes and Carli Knezevich won at No. 2 doubles and Martina Zerbola and Luisa Echeverry won at No. 3 doubles for the Zips.
