The University of Akron and Kent State each sent several athletes to the winners podium after the first two days of the Mid-American Conference track and field championships in Toledo.
Kent State’s Jackie Leppelmeier won the women’s hammer throw on Thursday with a toss of 197-6 to claim her second MAC championship. Akron’s Megan Dornisch finished third in the event.
Akron’s Caroline Hasse successfully defended her 2015 MAC title on Thursday with a first-place finish in the women’s pole vault. Rebecca Pietsch finished second and Becky Szabo placed fifth in the event for the Zips.
The Zips women dominated Friday’s action and moved into first place after two days of competition.
