The University of Akron women’s tennis team won its 18th consecutive match on Friday with a 5-2 win over host Buffalo.
The Zips (19-2, 3-0 Mid-American Conference) won five-of-six singles matches to win the match point after the Bulls won the doubles point.
Sophia Geier won the No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-2 to move to 18-1 in singles play this year. Ariadna Blinova won the No. 2 singles match, Shannon Newnes won at No. 4 singles match, Luisa Echeverry won at the fifth singles spot and Carli Knezevich won at No. 6.

UA senior Phil Jagers captured the men’s discus title to lead the Zips on the opening night of the Bobcat Inviational in San Marcos, Texas on Thursday.
