Sam Gainford’s first goal of the season started the University of Akron onslaught and the Zips men’s soccer team overpowered host Northern Illinois 7-0 Saturday.
Gainford added a second goal 24 minutes later. After that, Manuel Cordeiro and Robby Dambrot (St. Vincent-St. Mary) added first-half goals for the Zips (7-4-1, 2-0-0 Mid-American Conference).
Brady Ruhaak, Niko De Vera and Reggie Laryea scored on the Huskies (1-7-4, 0-1-1) in the second half. Skye Harter (Copley) had three assists for UA.
