The University of Akron men’s track and field team captured the 2016 Mid-American Conference Championships on Saturday at the University of Toledo. Eastern Michigan team finished second, six points behind Akron. Kent State was third.
The Zips’ women’s squad, with 130 points, came up short in their bid to repeat as league champions, earning a runner-up finish to Eastern Michigan (152 points). Kent State finished fourth.
UA track and field coach Dennis Mitchell was named as the MAC Men’s Coach of the Year. The Most Valuable Performer in the women’s meet was UA sophomore Jackie Siefring and redshirt junior Ariadna Ramos Gandia was tabbed as the Most Outstanding Field Performer.
