On the record: UA falls 84-71 at Penn State in women’s basketball

After opening the season with two home victories, the University of Akron women’s basketball team dropped its first game, 84-71 to host Penn State (2-1) Wednesday night.

Redshirt sophomore Megan Sefcik hit two 3-pointers at the end of the third quarter to bring the Zips to within four points (65-61), but it wasn’t enough as the Nittany Lions outscored the Zips 19-10 in the fourth.

Senior Hannah Plybon (Orrville) led UA (2-1) with 22 points and teammate Alex Ricketts added 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Forward Alli Ball led the Zips with eight rebounds and redshirt senior Brittany Gordon had a team-high six assists off the bench.
