A trio of University of Akron track and field runners were named as Mid-American Conference track and field athletes of the week, the league announced on Wednesday.
Senior Alexis Cooks, junior Daziah Green (Canton) and sophomore Terrell McClain were given the honor for performances at the Zips Invitational last Friday.
Cooks set a school record when she put the shot 56-8¾. Green turned in the second-fastest 400 meters (54.41) in the history of the women’s track program and McClain won the men’s long jump with a leap of 25-feet.
In addition to individual honors, the Zips women’s team is ranked 21st in the latest United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association’s NCAA Division I national team computer rankings released on Monday.
