Junior Taylor Kirian’s seventh-inning grand slam gave the University of Akron a 4-1 win over host Miami in the first game of a Mid-American Conference softball doubleheader Saturday. The RedHawks won the second game 3-0.
Miami (28-22, 13-10) took a 1-0 lead with a first-inning home run. That held until the Zips loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh to set up Kirian’s first collegiate grand slam and fourth homer of the season.
The Zips (26-27, 12-11) close out the regular season Sunday at Ohio.
