The University of Akron softball team won its fourth consecutive game Sunday, beating Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne 1-0 at the Alabama State Black and Gold Tournament.
Lexie Handley (St. Vincent-St. Mary) pitched her fourth complete game of the season, striking out five and walking one. The freshman improved to 4-2
Akron (5-5 overall) scored its only run in top of the third inning. With runners on second and third, Carley Childress grounded out to second base, allowing Ashley Sims to score.

A four-run ninth inning featuring three extra-base hits erased a 3-1 deficit as Kent State completed a sweep of Belmont with a 5-4 win Sunday.
