Pimnipa Panthong had a record-breaking debut for the Kent State women’s golf team at the Mercedes Benz Championship in Knoxville, Tenn.
Panthong won the two-day tournament with an 8-under 205 in her collegiate debut to lead the No. 16 Golden Flashes to a second-place finish. The Flashes tied Illinois with a 3-over 855 team score, 5 strokes behind tournament winner No. 7 Florida.
Panthong’s score was the lowest debut in program history, 2 strokes lower than the mark Taylor Kim set at the same tournament last year.
Michaela Finn shot a 66 on Tuesday, the best round of any golfer in the tournament, to finish 4-under 209.
