Freshman Karoline Stormo carded a 4-under 140 for 36 holes Monday to help the No. 12 Kent State University women’s golf team to a huge lead after the first day of the BYU at Entrada Classic in St. George, Utah.

Stormo, who had six birdies en route to a first-round 68, leads teammate Pimnipa Panthong by three stokes in the individual standings. Panthong, also a freshman, had a 1-under 143, including a 5-under 67 in the second round.

Kent State finished the day with a team score of 1-under 575 — 18 strokes ahead of second-place Brigham Young (593) and 29 strokes in front of third-place Tulsa (604).
