Behind medalist Gisli Sveinbergsson, Kent State claimed the Mid-American Conference men’s golf championship Sunday at the Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.
Sveinbergsson carded an 8-under 280, and teammate Ian Holt (Stow) tied for fourth at 1 under after a final-round 68. KSU’s Chase Johnson (Walsh Jesuit) was sixth at 1 over.
The Golden Flashes were 1 over in the weather-delayed final round and finished a MAC-record 3 under overall — 19 strokes better than second-place Ball State. Elliot Grayson was 13th at 9 over for sixth-place Akron.

John Matthews hit a bases-loaded single to right in the 10th inning to give host Kent State (27-13, 12-3) a 6-5 walk-off win over Central Michigan (23-20, 11-4).
