On the record: Kent State tops Akron in MAC volleyball

The Kent State University volleyball team improved to 2-0 in the Mid-American Conference with a 3-1 home victory over the University of Akron Saturday.

Kelsey Bittinger led the Golden Flashes with 17 kills and 14 digs for 17.5 total points.

Ian Holt (Stow) shot a 1-under 70 and is tied for fourth place overall and the Kent State University is in second place after the second round of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The Golden Flashes shot a 5-under 279 Saturday and trail first-place LSU by 2 strokes.

Gisli Sveinbergsson shot a 4-under 67 for a tie for 18th place, Chase Johnson (Walsh Jesuit) shot a 1-under 70 for a tie for 11th place, Bjarki Petursson shot a 1-over 72 for a tie for 22nd place and Josh Whalen shot a 3-over 74 for a tie for 14th place.
