Kent State left-handed starting pitcher Eric Lauer was named a first-team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, and teammate Zarley Zalewski was named a Rawlings first-team all-region by the American Baseball Coaches Association.
A junior, Lauer was also named a finalist for the Dick Howser Award and a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist. He finished with a 0.69 ERA and was a finalist for the National College Baseball Hall of Fame Pitcher of the Year award. He was selected in the first round of the MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres.
