On the record: Kent State men’s golf team advances to NCAA championship

The Kent State men’s golf team shot a three-round total of 855 to finish second in the Washington regional and advance to the NCAA Division I National Championship.

The University of Southern California, ranked second in the country, won the regional title with an 849.

Kent State junior Ian Holt (Stow) fired a 4-under 209, including a final-round 67 Wednesday, to finish tied for second place individually. He finished three strokes behind medalist Cole Miller.

Bjarki Petursson shot an even-par 213 and Josh Whalen (214) and Gisli Sveinbergsson (221) rounded out the scoring.

The Golden Flashes, tied for 11th in the GCAA Coaches poll, will tee off for a national title on May 26 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.
