University of Akron junior Clayton Murphy has signed a professional contract with Nike, Doyle Management announced on Wednesday. Murphy will forgo his senior year of NCAA eligibility with the Zips.
Murphy had announced intention to turn pro at the Portland Track Festival, days after winning the NCAA 1,500-meter title in Eugene, Ore.
In his final season as a Zip, Murphy won the NCAA indoor 800-meter and recorded the third-fastest time in the 1,500.

Anita Brown, a four-time letter winner for the University of Akron, signed a women’s professional contract to play in Bulgaria.
