On the record: Central Michigan scores four times in 12th to sink Akron in MAC softball

The University of Akron gave up four runs in the 12th inning to lose a 4-0 heartbreaker to Central Michigan in Mid-American Conference softball Saturday afternoon.

After pitching 11 brilliant innings, Zips freshman Lexie Handley (St. Vincent-St. Mary) gave up four runs on four hits. She struck out eight and walked one in a career-long outing.

UA (15-20, 4-5) left eight runners on base.

Kent State earned a 6-5 walk-off win in the opener before dropping the nightcap 7-6 to visiting Northern Illinois in a MAC doubleheader.

Bailey Brownfield scorched an eighth-inning double to left-center to drive in Maddy Grimm from first for the game-winner in the first game.
