On the record: Akron’s Claudia Garcia Jou places third in high jump at NCAA championships; Kent State’s Reggie Jagers III places seventh in discus

University of Akron senior Claudia Garcia Jou won first-team All-America accolades Saturday by placing third in the women’s high jump on the last day of the NCAA championships in Eugene, Ore.

Garcia Jou cleared the bars at 5 feet, 8 inches, 5-10 and 5-11.50, but missed at 6-0.75. It’s the fourth time she’s won All-America honors. Kansas State’s Kimberly Williamson won at 6-2.

Akron sophomore Jaclyn Siefring was 12th in the women’s heptathlon, which ended Saturday with the long jump, javelin and 800 meters.

Kent State’s Reggie Jagers III earned first-team All-America honors with a seventh-place finish in the men’s discus.
