The University of Akron women’s basketball team defeated host Eastern Michigan 68-65 in overtime Wednesday.
The Zips (7-6, 1-1 Mid-American Conference) entered the overtime period tied at 55 points apiece with the Eagles (10-3, 1-1 MAC). UA then built a narrow lead behind six free throws and Hannah Plybon’s timely 3-pointer. Plybon, a junior guard from Orrville, connected from behind the arc to give the Zips a four point lead with 2:10 to play.
Plybon, who also hit a midrange jumper with 26 seconds to go to make it 66-62, scored a game-high 22 points. Sophomore forward Greta Burry managed 17 points.
