Senior Hannah Plybon (Orrville) scored 20 points to lead the University of Akron women’s basketball team to a 63-52 win over Malone in the season opener Saturday at Rhodes Arena.
Plybon was 11-for-11 at the free-throw line and junior Alli Ball added a career-high 15 points and a team-high eight rebounds for the Zips (1-0).
The Zips trailed by three at halftime deficit and by five with 4:18 to play in the third quarter before rallying to defeat the visiting Pioneers (0-1).
