The season came to an end for the University of Akron women’s basketball team Monday with a 65-37 loss at Toledo in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
Playing as the No. 11 seed for the first time ever, the Zips were just 1-of-16 from 3-point range against the NCAA’s fifth-ranked team in 3-point defense. The Zips finished with a 9-21 record and an 11-game losing streak.
The sixth-seeded Rockets, with three players scoring in double figures, won their fifth consecutive game. Toledo (22-8) will play in the MAC quarterfinals Wednesday against No. 3 Kent State at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.
