On the record: 26 UA athletes advance to NCAA East Preliminary Round for track and field

The University of Akron track and field program will send 26 student-athletes from its men’s and women’s teams to the NCAA East Preliminary Round at North Florida University in Jacksonville on May 26-28.

The meet includes the region’s top 48 athletes and will serve as the opening round of the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The top 12 finishers in each event will advance to the NCAA National Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 8-11.

Claudia Garcia Jou (high jump), Caroline Hasse (pole vault) and Megan Dornisch (hammer) lead the 10 women’s participants and Clayton Murphy (1,500 meters), Sean Weems (400 hurdles), Dan Zupan (3,000-meter steeplechase) and Phil Jagers (discuss) lead the 16 men who will compete in the preliminary round.
