CLEVELAND, Ohio – Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Melén was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Taking over the starting job and making her first collegiate appearances, Melén has been solid in her first two starts, saving all six shots on goal that she has faced. The result is back-to-back Kent State clean sheets to start the season for the first time since 2004.
The Frisco, Texas native was also solid with the ball at her feet, serving as an outlet for the back line to relieve pressure in possession and completing 86 percent of her passes to help launch the Golden Flashes' attack.
