CLEVELAND – Graduate student goalkeeper Sarah Melén has earned Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday.
Melén played all 180 minutes in goal over the weekend for the Golden Flashes. Against No. 21 Pitt on Thursday night, Melén tallied a season-high 10 saves, the fourth double-digit save game of her career. The keeper faced 25 shots on the night, only allowing 1 goal as the Flashes hung with the potent Pitt team.
Three days later, Melén earned her first shutout victory on the road at Cleveland State, making three saves as the Flashes won 2-0.
