Marla Ridenour: Kent State’s tournament ouster caps stunning freefall after confidence-robbing injuries

KENT: On Jan. 26 the Kent State Golden Flashes were 15-5, on top of the world and the Mid-American Conference. They looked to be as well-balanced and dominant as the University of Akron, ready to battle the rival Zips for the championship.

A season full of promise surely included NCAA Tournament dreams.

Then in the span of a week, two guards suffered foot injuries. Redshirt senior Xavier Pollard needed surgery. Nothing was ever the same.

On Monday night in the first round of the MAC Tournament at the M.A.C. Center, Kent State’s season crashed to a halt much earlier than expected.
