KENT: For most of the past month, Kent State’s men’s basketball season had been spiraling out of control.
The Golden Flashes were leading the Mid-American Conference East Division when foot injuries to Xavier Pollard and Jaylin Walker, Pollard’s requiring surgery, seemed to sound their death knell. They lost four out of five as hope seemingly drained away.
But somehow KSU’s seniors convinced the rest of the team they still had enough talent to win. Somehow they realized there was enough time to make a run at the MAC East crown. Somehow the Flashes began to believe in each other again.
