The Mid-American Conference announced its men's and women's Scholar Athletes of the Week on Wednesday with Kent State's Mason Mamarella receiving honors.
Mason Mamarella led Kent State to a 5-0 week that pushed the Golden Flashes into a tie for first in the Mid-American Conference standings. Mamarella ignited an offensive output of 6.4 runs per game from the leadoff spot, batting .500 (6-for-12) with 6 runs scored, 3 doubles, and 2 RBIs. He scored at least one run in every game and had multiple hits in four games. In Friday's series opener against Toledo, Mamarella scored the only run of the game in the 15th inning after drawing a leadoff walk, stealing second and then coming home to score on a ball that went into the outfield.
