The No. 6 Golden Flashes clipped No. 11 Central Michigan at home in overtime by a record-setting score of 116-106. Sophomore guard Jalen Avery rattled off 16 points in the additional period to lift the Flashes in a Mid-American Conference tournament first-round game.
Kent State will play No. 3 Buffalo in Thursday’s late quarterfinal at Quicken Loans Arena.
The Flashes and the Chippewas combined for 222 points and 34 3-pointers, and the Flashes (19-13, 11-8) set a MAC tournament record with 116 points.
