Visiting Kent State couldn’t hold onto a lead it owned for most of the night but came away with enough plays in overtime Tuesday to down Western Michigan 87-84 in the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams.
The Golden Flashes (10-4, 1-0) led at one point by 12 in the second half (63-51) but watched as Western Michigan slowly chipped away and eventually took the lead with 90 seconds remaining on two jumpers by Thomas Wilder.
Xavier Pollard answered with a jumper of his own to tie it 73-73 with 1:20 to go and then came away with a steal.
