Kent State men’s basketball: Coming off lopsided loss, Golden Flashes looking to regain momentum against surging Northern Illinois

KENT: Senior guard Deon Edwin’s theory is simple: Kent State lost focus on its own identity Friday in a 85-67 loss to Ohio.

The Golden Flashes (9-6, 1-1 Mid-American Conference) outrebounded the Bobcats (10-3, 2-0 MAC) 47-35 and collected 16 more offensive boards by game’s end. Those numbers align with their reputation as one of the nation’s best rebounding teams, especially as they lead the country in offensive rebounds and the conference in rebounding margin.

Still, Edwin and Flashes coach Rob Senderoff shared a similar sentiment — the Flashes didn’t uphold their signature toughness.

They’ll need it Tuesday night at home against surging Northern Illinois, which has won five of its last six games.
