Kent State football: Golden Flashes to face Ohio Bobcats with MAC East implications on the line

Kent State will host Ohio at 1 p.m. Saturday with a chance to get back into the race in the Mid-American Conference East Division.

A win would keep the Golden Flashes (2-5, 1-2 MAC) competitive in a tightening competition atop the division. A loss would drop them two games behind rival Akron and the Bobcats (4-3, 2-1 MAC).

Still, the focus during this week’s practices at Kent State centered around the Flashes, not the Bobcats.

The season’s more than half over and the team’s health is a persistent concern for coach Paul Haynes. Freshman running back Justin Rankin missed last week with a knee injury despite warming up pregame, and sophomore safety Juantez McRae and fifth-year senior cornerback Najee Murray exited last week’s 18-14 loss to Miami.
