“I would like to congratulate Western (Michigan) on their playoff victory," coach Jim Underwood said. “We got behind a couple of goals early in the game and couldn’t recover. (However), I’m very proud of our team as they continued to battle until the very end of the game.”
Kent State allowed four goals in the first period of Friday’s first playoff game before sophomore defenseman Mike Sullivan scored five minutes into the second period.
Western Michigan answered Kent State’s lone goal with two of their own before the end of the second period, giving the Broncos a 6-1 win.
