Lynchburg, Va. - The Kent State field hockey (0-1) team fell to No. 14 Liberty (1-0) tonight 2-0 in the season opener.
The Flames came out strong in the first, taking the lead 1-0 three minutes into the period. Keeping play in Liberty territory, the Flashes offense secured three corners within the next three minutes.
Eight minutes into the second quarter, the Flames were awarded a penalty stroke after a corner. Goalkeeper Cecile van Eijck dove to make the save and keep the score 1-0. At the half, both teams were tied 5-5 in shots and Liberty led 4-3 in saves.
