OXFORD, Ohio – Kent State handed first-place Miami its first home loss of the Mid-American Conference season in earning a doubleheader split on Saturday. The Golden Flashes lost the first game of the day, 7-5, and bounced back to win the nightcap, 9-6.
The first game was déjà vu for Kent State (25-15, 8-6 MAC), which was unable to maintain an early lead just like in the opening game of the series on Friday. Miami took the lead with six unanswered runs and the Flashes' seventh-inning rally came up short.
The third time was the charm for Kent State, which used a five-run fifth inning to hold off another Miami come-from-behind effort and avoid the series sweep.
