KENT, Ohio – The Kent State volleyball team played right with preseason Mid-American Conference favorite Miami for much of Friday night's conference opener but was unable to score critical points late in sets in the 3-0 (23-25, 24-26, 18-25) setback. The back-and-forth contest featured 32 ties and 18 lead changes.
The Golden Flashes (7-6, 0-1 MAC) were led by sophomore Erin Gardner, whose 28 digs are tied for the fifth-most in a three-setter by any player in the country this season. Freshman Savannah Matthews added 16 digs, while sophomore Danie Tyson registered a match-high five blocks.
