KENT, Ohio – The Kent State University field hockey team (4-2) dropped a back-and-forth battle against undefeated Monmouth (5-0), 3-2, at home Friday.
The Golden Flashes had to fend off a heavy attack early, with Andrea Rinehart picking up saves within the first 10 minutes of the match. The first goal for Monmouth came in the ninth minute, when Alyssa Ercolino scored off of a rebound after a corner shot.
Midway through the first half, Kent State found their rhythm, and steadily put pressure on the Hawks. The Golden Flashes outshot the opposition, 7-6, in the first half, with four shots coming in the final five minutes of the period.
