KENT, Ohio – The Kent State University field hockey team (4-8-0, 1-1-0 MAC) made its 2017 home debut Friday in a razor thin loss to the Miami Redhawks (5-6-0, 3-0-0 MAC), 1-0.
The lone goal in the match came early, when Miami reached the scoreboard in the sixth minute. Estel Roig set up the goal as the inserter on a penalty corner. Paula Portugal stopped it and immediately took a shot on goal to take the lead.
Miami continued to look strong defensively at the start, but the run of play would tip towards the Golden Flashes towards the end of the first half.
