CLEVELAND – Kent State goalkeeper Azure Fernsler has been named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week for competition from Oct. 18-24, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Fernsler's stellar play in the cage allowed the Golden Flashes to earn a huge road MAC win at Appalachian State and battle No. 9 Liberty to the final horn during a pair of road matches over the weekend. In perhaps the best performance during her career as a Golden Flash, she made an incredible 17 saves during Sunday's 2-1 setback at Liberty, holding the national scoring leader under half of its season average.
