Local sports briefs for May 8: KU baseball falls at home to Texas Tech

Kansas closer Stephen Villines pitched a career-high six shutout innings, but the Kansas baseball team fell short to No. 8 Texas Tech, losing 6-3 Sunday at Hoglund Ballpark.

The sidearmer entered in the fourth inning after the Red Raiders (37-13, 17-4 Big 12) hit Kansas (19-29-1, 5-12) starter Blake Weiman for six runs off nine hits, including back-to-back home runs in the third. Villines faced 21 batters of the red-hot TTU offense and allowed just two hits in the 80-pitch effort.

K-STATE BASEBALL FALLS TO OU IN SERIES FINALE:The Kansas State baseball team yielded 13 hits, including six extra-base hits, and Oklahoma starting pitcher Alec Hansen carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning while striking out nine as the Wildcats lost to the Sooners, 12-0 on Sunday in a run-rule, seven-inning game in Norman, Okla.
