Local sports briefs for May 5: WU baseball set for final regular-season series of year

The Washburn baseball team will open its final series of the regular season at 5 p.m. Friday against Central Missouri at Falley Field. WU (31-15, 26-10 MIAA) will enter the series three games behind UCM for first place in the MIAA standings, needing a sweep to earn a share of the conference title.

The series will also have regional implications, with UCM ranked No. 3 in the central region rankings while Washburn is eighth.
