Local sports briefs for June 19: K-State's Murray, ESU's Zordel nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year

Kansas State senior rower Meggie Murray and Emporia State softball player Taylor Zordel have been nominated for the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year award, the NCAA office announced Friday.

Murray was a captain of the K-State Women’s Rowing team for the past two seasons and helped lead the Wildcats at the Big 12 championship to top-three team finishes in back-to-back seasons. She was named to the All-Big 12 second team twice in her collegiate career.

Zordel, a Topeka native who played at Washburn Rural High School, earned MIAA Defensive Player of the Year honors and was named first-team All-MIAA at shortstop for the three straight seasons.
