Local sports breifs for June 3: Former K-State QB Bishop named to 2016 College Football Hall of Fame ballot

The National Football Foundation on Tuesday named former Kansas State star quarterback Michael Bishop as one of the 76 players on the 2016 College Football Hall of Fame ballot.

During the 1998 season, Bishop was 164 of 295 passing for 2,844 yards and 23 touchdowns. Bishop finished second in the Heisman trophy voting that year and won the Davey O’Brien Award. He still holds the K-State record for passing efficiency after posting a QB rating of 159.6.

The Wildcats earned their first-ever No. 1 overall ranking with Bishop under center.

Bishop also joins fellow K-State football greats Jordy Nelson, Clarence Scott and Darren Sproles on the team’s Ring of Honor class of 2015.
