K-State's Joe Hubener gets his chance to play quarterback

Joe Hubener believes he has something to prove, but that has been the case throughout his football career.

Hubener saw some spot duty at quarterback at Cheney High School but couldn’t earn the starting position, splitting his time between wide receiver, tight end and also playing defense.

He came to Kansas State as a walk-on and was the back-up quarterback last season to Jake Waters while playing his way into a scholarship. He contended for the starting job this season but lost out to Jesse Ertz, then a season-ending knee injury to Ertz moved Hubener up to the top of the depth chart.
