Last Saturday’s results in Austin and Manhattan served to at least give us a little hope that Kansas State can avoid disaster as it seeks bowl eligibility at No. 25 Iowa State. But it’s still going to be very much an uphill battle for the Cats, largely because of a formidable defense that was a primary focus of our discussion with Danny Lawhon, assistant editor at the Des Moines Register. We also learned a little more about freshman quarterback Brock Purdy, the main reason the Cyclones’ offense went from mediocre early in the season to virtually unstoppable during a five-game win streak that ended at Texas.
