Will pair of top-20 transfers be springboard for KU women's basketball?

LAWRENCE — A few weeks ago, Kansas football coach David Beaty talked about the importance of landing a top recruit to his program, saying that getting the first five-star to commit was key in the pursuit of landing others.

New KU women’s basketball coach Brandon Schneider hasn’t wasted any time getting that introductory step out of the way.

After getting hired in late April, Schneider received commitments from transfers Jessica Washington (North Carolina) and McKenzie Calvert (USC), a pair of top-20 players out of high school.

“If you’re a top-notch recruit right now in the 2016 class or in the 2017 class, and you hear about those two guys choosing Kansas, your ears are going to perk up a little bit,” Schneider said.
