LAWRENCE — The texts came flooding to Brandon Schneider’s cell phone, but one in particular stood out.

It was March 9, minutes after Kansas had fired Bonnie Henrickson, and the Stephen F. Austin women's basketball coach received a message from one of his closest friends in Emporia.

“The KU job’s open,” it read. “Time to come home.”

Forty-three days later, a smiling Schneider stepped to the podium at Allen Fieldhouse, moments after being introduced as the first male women’s basketball coach in KU history.

“I just got to meet Max Falkenstien,” Schneider said.
