Slow-starting Jayhawks slug Washburn 79-52in final preseason game

Ready or not, it’s time for regular-season college basketball.

Kansas, which opens another season of great expectations against Michigan State on Tuesday night at the Champions Classic in Indianapolis, completed its two-game exhibition slate against in-state NCAA Division II opposition with a slow-starting, fast-finishing 79-52 victory over Washburn on Thursday night before 16,300 fans at Allen Fieldhouse.

Kansas senior guard Lagerald Vick, who scored seven points in a 93-55 victory over Emporia State a week ago, hit four threes and scored 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting on Thursday. He, along with Dedric Lawson (18 points, six rebounds, four threes), combined for five three-pointers in a 33-5 run that turned a close 35-28 game (18:19 remaining) into a 68-33 rout with nine minutes left.
