KU volleyball gets advantage it didn't have a year ago in NCAA opener

LAWRENCE — The advice came from a man called Cap — someone Kansas coach Ray Bechard says he’s more comfortable calling “Sir.”

For four straight years, the former Marine has come to Lawrence to work on leadership development with KU’s volleyball team. And each year, he preaches the same basic message: In the most important times, don’t rise to the occasion. Instead, fall back on your training.

“You don’t have to be special,” Bechard said. “You have to be good like you’ve been all year.”
