KU quarterback situation murky again with Ryan Willis battling groin injuries

AUSTIN, Texas — Early in the fourth quarter, David Beaty decided it was best for player and team if Ryan Willis didn’t return to the field.

The true freshman quarterback — playing through injuries to his left and right groin suffered in Saturday’s 59-20 loss to Texas — couldn’t get much zip on a third-down throw, with the pass sailing to UT’s DeShon Elliott for an interception.

“The kid was trying everything he could,” Beaty said. “It just wasn’t fair to him to keep leaving him in there.”

Backup Keaton Perry came in for the team’s final three drives, and suddenly, a vicious KU quarterback carousel could spin back into motion if Willis isn’t able to recover quickly.
